The Gungahlin College, Library and CIT project required masterplanning for
the site and precinct as well as the design, documentation and construction
of new facilities. The new facilities include a secondary college to
accommodate 900-950 year 11 and 12 students integrated with the new
Gungahlin Community Library, Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT)
Flexible Learning Centre and Town Park.
The project provides a range of flexible learning environments which
facilitate modern teaching and learning practices and create a model for
education in the ACT whilst setting a standard for modern quality education
in Australia.
The project was awarded both the Overall Winner and Winner for an Entire
New School project at the 2012 Council for Educational Facility Planners
(CEFPI) awards.
The design responds to the key project objectives identified by each of the
stakeholders as well as providing a facility that contributes more broadly to
the Gungahlin community, not only through provision of the Library and CIT
Learning Centre, but also through shared College facilitates including a 450
seat performance theatre and gymnasium.
The College, Library and CIT have been designed to be sustainable with the
project receiving a formal 5 star ‘Greenstar’ rating.
